Corpus Christi College, Oxford

“The Society champions high-quality new design and believes the proposed building is successful in this regard. We welcome the fact that the proposed building has not been greedy in terms of mass, scale and height, and responds to the human-scale/low landscape of the park.”

The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings

Wright & Wright’s extension will help modernise the library, which no longer meets the needs of the university's staff and students, by improving access and the security of the special collection. The project will also create suitable conditions for preserving the valuable archive.

A new naturally lit reading room overlooking the garden quad will be spread over three floors, providing a range of working environments.

The scheme will also work with the college’s existing 1950s Grade II-listed Staircase 6 building by restoring and enhancing the existing building fabric. Proposals include a new ashlar stone façade to Oriel Square. Internally, a palette of materials such as oak and brass will be used throughout, in keeping with the rest of the college.
