Pembroke College Library, Oxford

Wright & Wright have been appointed to develop the current McGowin Library at Pembroke College through the improvement  and extension of the existing building. Designed by Sir Leslie Martin’s office in association with Colen Lumley and opened in 1974, the Library as it stands is no longer fit for purpose. Through a carefully considered programme of expansion and  refurbishment, it has the potential to become a delightful place in which to study, work and socialise. In doing so, its original Modernist architecture is reframed and revitalised, and aspects such as sustainability and accessibility improved and brought in line with current standards.
