Glasgow Green

Transforming Glasgow Green into a landscaped floodplain, this fanciful masterplan sought to support some of the city’s most deprived areas with some of the world’s most uplifting urban spaces as its inspiration. At its source, the masterplan sprang from the long-loved tradition of the town’s workers and their families escaping on day-trips aboard Clyde steamers to the picturesque reaches of the river – going ‘doon the watter’.

The project won the professional category of an idea competition to celebrate the city as World Capital of Culture, 1990. The Royal Academy Summer Show 2016 chose to exhibit it.
