Senior Associate and Passivhaus Designer Ronan Morris has been shortlisted by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) for the 2023 Stephen Lawrence Prize in recognition of his work on the Museum of the Home.

The award celebrates new talent by exclusively recognising projects led by an early career project architect.

In realising Wright & Wright's masterplan for the museum, Ronan displayed outstanding strategic planning and leadership skills in navigating the complexities of a highly sensitive and listed site, tackling design coordination through construction during the COVID-19 pandemic, and liaising with the project's funders to realise an ambitious yet cost-effective scheme.

Ronan's creativity, tenacity and technical acumen underscored the transformation of the initial architectural vision into built reality. His accreditation in Passivhaus and specialised knowledge on issues relating to conservation and sustainability enabled the Museum's exemplary reinvention in a holistic and environmentally conscious manner. Finally, his empathy with everyone he works with - the client team, consultants, and contractor - ensured all stakeholders had a voice and equal agency in the process.

Ronan is now overseeing the project's post-occupancy phase and working closely with Museum Director Sonia Solicari and her team to ensure continued success.

An award-winning, ecologically-minded design for a community-centric museum stems from a holistic redefinition of exhibition, storage and community spaces, all with no commensurate increase in energy use.
